Ha, well someone had to share May 21st with me, and I couldn’t be happier that I share it with the very talented Robert Montgomery. It’s amazing the appreciation he has on here and I love it :)

“It´s one thing to accept that The Divorcee was bold for 1930. The more profound realization is that it would be considered audacious today. Forget the Jazz Age lingo. Forget that The Divorcee is in black and white. Picture it rather as a wide-screen color release, now in the theaters. Now imagine a modern movie in which the heroine does the thing that Shearer does. It would never happen. As recently as 1995, Julia Roberts made a picture called Something to Talk About, in which she found herself in a martial crisis not unlike Shearer’s. But weeks, not hours, into the separation, Roberts overcomes the temptation to sleep with a man she finds attractive. The movie had her resist in order to keep her from seeming frivolous and to maintain the audience´s sympathy. There is still a lot of judgement surrounding “strong, almost ruthless” women after all.”

I never realized what a cool fandom Robert Montgomery has here on Tumblr! It’s not even too close to his birthday and he gets a healthy 4-5 postings a day on Tumblr or maybe more that I haven’t counted.
He’s one of the few famous classic actors out there that I happen to share a birthday with (May 21st). If I were born on May 20th, I would’ve shared it with Jimmy Stewart and Cher and if I’d been born a day later, May 22nd, Laurence Olivier and I would be birthday buddies. I kinda like being sandwiched between Jimmy Stewart and Laurence Olivier. Not too shabby!
